Micheal Martin Murphey... accompanied by the Arianna String Quartet with special guest Howard Hudiburg, Oct. 5, 2019
Native Texan Murphey already had songwriting success in Los Angeles when he returned to Texas and landed in Austin in the late 1960s. Still, Murphey says moving to Austin made him a better songwriter and a better performer due to the friendly association with other writers and performers who followed him to Austin and gave birth a burgeoning creative community that included Jerry Jeff Walker, Willie Nelson, Jimmy Buffett, Gary P. Nunn and other soon-to-be legends like Guy Clark and Townes Van Zandt.
Now in their 27th season, highlights for 2018-19 include appearances in Mexico at the Festival Internacional de Musica Naolinco, as well as returns to the Madeline Island Chamber Music Festival and Credo Music Festival, the completion of their recordings of the complete quartets of Beethoven for Centaur Records, and concerts throughout the United States. The ASQ also looks forward to the continuation of their two summer festivals in St. Louis, the Arianna Chamber Music Festival and the UMSL String Orchestra Camp.
